PDE announces $75 million in environmental grants for public schools | Pennsylvania News

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has announced $75 million in grant funding to help public schools across the state make environmental repairs and improvements.

According to a press release from Gov. Josh Shapiro’s office, the funds come through PDE’s Environmental Repairs Grant Program. The program focuses on “remediating and abating environmental hazards in schools to create the safe, healthy learning environments that students and staff deserve,” the press release said.

According to the press release, the program’s 2023-24 budget had allocated the $75 million for school districts, charter schools, and career and technical centers (CTCs), the press release said.

From May 1 to June 30, such institutions can apply for PDE grant funding to “abate or remediate” environmental hazards such as lead contamination, asbestos and mold inside school buildings. Applications are accessible through MyPDESuite, according to the press release.
