Forum looks at digitalisation transition to tackle environmental issues


Muscat: HH Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini al Said, Assistant Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers for Conferences, presided over the opening of the sixth session of the Oman Environmental Forum, under the title ‘Innovation and Green Technology’, at the Grand Hyatt Muscat Hotel.

The forum’s activities come in parallel with the new reality and efforts to transition to comprehensive digitalisation, to find practical solutions for many development and environmental problems.

The forum looked at ways of enabling digital innovations to help the environment, increase the productivity and competitiveness of environmentally friendly industries, generate new sources of income and investment, and reduce costs and risks associated with environmental degradation, pollution and climate change, which have negative impacts on the economy and society.

Hatem bin Hamad al Tai, Secretary-General of the forum, gave the welcome speech, while Dr Saif bin Ali al Hajri, UN Commissioner for Evangelising for the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, presented the opening statement of the sixth session. Abdulaziz bin Said al Shidhani, Director-General of Renewable Energy and Hydrogen, delivered the keynote speech.

The forum aimed to contribute to enabling innovative solutions to deal with environmental issues, by creating an effective and reliable discussion platform for experts and specialists for realistic solutions, enhancing efforts to benefit from advanced technologies to solve the effects of climate change, and stimulating national efforts to adopt new capabilities that guarantee levels of advanced clean development.
