Phnom Penh (FN), May 16 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced that concerns, particularly from Viet Nam, regarding the Funan Techo Canal Project are unwarranted as the project is highly beneficial and holds significant potential for Cambodia.

The senate president spoke on Thursday (May 16) in a special message related to Funan Techo Canal.

“We observe that some media outlets, including some Vietnamese analysts, have published articles in foreign newspapers expressing concerns. While it is right to raise concerns, in the case of the Funan Techo Canal, these concerns are unnecessary. We have followed all regulations and would like to confirm that we have not violated neither any environmental regulations, nor have we caused any damage to our neighbours, including Viet Nam, both upstream and downstream of the Mekong River,” Samdech Techo underscored.

Taking this occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted that Funan Techo Canal will enhance the market competitiveness of Cambodian products by reducing transportation costs, and also improve the irrigation system of the southwest of the nation.

Samdech Techo also added that the Funan Techo Canal will increase fish production and fish farming of the citizens, especially to help relieve floods during the rainy seasons. In addition, the Funan Techo canal will also contribute to tourism.
