Proposed IAA changes take environmental assessment back decades, says NDP MP

The NDP’s critic for environment and climate change is ripping the Liberal government for neglecting its role in approving major resource projects.

NDP MP Laurel Collins said recently proposed changes to the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) disavows the notion of federal oversight during the project regulation process, taking Canadian environmental assessment process back decades.

“I’m incredibly disappointed they are backing off their commitment and caving to the pressures from provinces and from industry,” Collins told iPolitics in an interview Wednesday.
