Along the municipal roads, at important offices, and near residences in Nabinagar, the Krishnachura trees stand tall, adorned with clusters of vibrant red flowers, adding a burst of colour to the city. This flowering tree not only enhances the charm of rural towns but also adds beauty to the roadsides and outskirts of the city.
When Krishnachura blooms in the summer, it’s a sight to behold for nature enthusiasts. The stunning crimson flowers of Krishnachura spread their beauty along the paths and edges of Nabinagar, complementing the greenery of the village, the winding pathways, and the courtyards of houses.
Originally from Madagascar, this tree, now a beloved part of Bengali tradition, was brought to the country and adopted a new name. Many believe the tree and its flowers are named after Lord Krishna due to their enchanting crimson hue.
Despite not towering too high, reaching a maximum of 12 metres, Krishnachura’s branches spread wide, dominating the landscape during summer and monsoon.
While this flower blooms at different times in various countries, in Bangladesh, it graces us with its beauty from April to June.
