Ministry of Environment has implemented Environmental Chakra Strategy with three main angles

Eang Sophalleth, Minister of the Ministry of Environment, said that the Royal Government of Cambodia, the seventh mandate of the National Assembly, has been in operation for more than eight months, the Ministry of Environment has implemented the Environmental Chakra Strategy with three main angles: clean, green, and sustainable.

Sophalleth said this in the workshop on “Climate Change Impact and Policy Response” at the Office of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

On this occasion, the Minister stressed that “in cleanliness, the Ministry of Environment has launched a campaign to reduce the use of plastic under the theme, “Today I do not use plastic bags.” The campaign was successful with students, teachers, and civil servants; workers and citizens participated in more than 8 million people.”

In particular, in green, the Ministry of Environment has implemented green, setting out four rules, including:

1. Strengthen the implementation of the law 100 percent to prevent and protect natural resources.

2. Cooperate with local authority (sub-national administration) by the Ministry of Environment: will distribute a map of protected areas to sub-national authorities on May 3, and the Ministry will launch an app to show the location and boundaries of protected areas for the public to understand whether the location of the land they want to buy is in or outside the protected area and launch a tree planting app to register participants.

3. The Ministry of Environment cooperates with the National Armed Forces and the Anti-Corruption Unit to strengthen the management of natural resources.

4. Promote the planting of at least 1 million trees per year, starting in the 2024 rainy season.

On July 10, 2024, the Ministry of Environment will hold a sapling exhibition in front of the Ministry of Environment in Phnom Penh for 2024 and 2025, and next year it will be held in each province. At the same time, improving people’s livelihoods through the Green Leisure Tourism Development Project, which gives ownership to people in protected areas.
