Lander & Rogers – the recipient of Lawyer Weekly’s Women in Law Awards for Diversity Law Firm of the Year in 2022 – has appointed Tom White as its newest partner, who will be based in its Sydney office.
The independent Australian law firm said White has attained this position to “establish an environment and planning team providing specialist advice as part of its market-leading real estate and projects and infrastructure teams”.
White has noteworthy experience advising the NSW state government on environmental projects and also guiding the Commonwealth government in legislative amendments concerning land acquisition.
The national law firm also outlined that he has also advised “private landowners, developers and institutional investors on complex development projects and infrastructure”.
By attaining this extensive knowledge, the firm stated that “his appointment will strengthen the firm’s offering with a particular focus on energy and infrastructure projects and property development”.
White attended UNSW, where he graduated with a bachelor of law and commerce in 2011. He then graduated with a diploma in legal practice from the College of Law Australia in 2021 and completed his master’s degree at the University of Sydney.
With over a decade’s worth of experience in environment and planning law, White has held various titles at different firms. This includes lawyer and senior associate at Henry Davis York and senior associate and special counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright.
Lander & Rogers also highlighted White’s extensive experience, noting that he has recently “advised in numerous land acquisition, planning, environmental, heritage and contamination matters for Transport for NSW, including the Northern Road Upgrade, the Northern Beaches B-Line, the Gateway Project, the WestConnex Project and the Northern Beaches link”.
The firm stated that White’s appointment “follows a number of lateral hires by the firm in the last 12 months, including real estate and projects partner Hoda Naghdy”.
Lander & Rogers partner and national practice group leader for their real estate and projects John Wells said the firm was “delighted to welcome Tom to the group, and he will be a real asset to our team and clients”.
“With a proven record of navigating some of the most complex environment and infrastructure matters, Tom’s appointment is a strategic addition to strengthen our existing capabilities in this space and in particular around energy transition and public infrastructure,” he said.
“His extensive sector knowledge will enhance our ability to meet client demand for critical advice on complex projects through an environmental lens.”
White said he was honoured to be chosen to initiate the national law firm’s environment and planning team.
“I’m excited to be establishing an environment and planning team at Lander & Rogers to provide specialist advice to existing clients of the market-leading real estate and projects team, broaden the firm’s strong relationship with government clients and to support the firm’s clients to navigate the challenges of operating in a modern economy with an increased focus on environment and sustainability,” he said.
