The volunteers alleged that the agencies and private parties engaged in handling pollution of Buddha Dariya were wasting public money and if the situation was not handled carefully and effectively, it would further damage the water bodies and soil. The PAC members said it was high time for the govt to implement environmental laws honestly against all partners to handle rise in pollution levels. Ongoing corruption is a major factor making the project ineffective, they added.
The green activists also appreciated efforts made by social organizations that were going in a positive direction in handling the situation, but said actions of the govt were not focused on the real cause, which is corruption and collusion between businesses, government officers, and politicians tied together with bonds of easy money for all. “The efforts and the issues have to be addressed at a much higher level by the govt with more serious involvement to resolve the existing complex issues to achieve positive results in a shorter time frame. The nexus needs to be broken between polluters and their facilitators playing hide and seek for a long time, hampering progress,” they added.
