LANSING, Mich. — State funds are now available to help entities statewide address environmental and health issues.
Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, or EGLE, has announced a new grant program aiming to help communities meet environmental and health challenges.
Called the Environmental Justice Impact Grant program, $20 million is offered through the Office of the Environmental Justice Public Advocate.
The funds were made possible by the Michigan legislature through the fiscal year 2024 budget.
Applicants can apply for community projects focused on improving local public health, monitoring pollution, enhancing indoor air quality, and removing blight.
Eligible applicants include federally recognized tribes, community-based nonprofits, local governments, schools, and childcare centers.
Each applicants are eligible to receive up to $500,000, according to officials.
Applications must be received by July 15, and funds will be awarded by early September 2024.
